Optimise your CMS

Around 57% of Drupal websites are still on Drupal 7.

The reality is that at some point, you will need to migrate. Drupal 7 is coming toward its end of life and Drupal 9 is here.

In addition to the loss of Drupal 7 core support, several contributed modules are receiving less attention in Drupal 7.

An update to Drupal 8 is recommended as a minimum. It’s feature-rich and offers every module you might need as part of Drupal Core.

Moving to Drupal 8 ensures you continue to enjoy security updates for which we can offer ongoing support.

Migrating from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 is far simpler than from 7 to 9, and makes an excellent stepping stone.

We can work with websites built using a proprietary CMS, older versions of Drupal, or other platforms like WordPress and Joomla for a smooth migration.

Drupal 10 is coming and we offer a painless migration journey.

Complex migrations

In most cases, the migration process is not going to be as straightforward as migrating the same content structure or objects from/to an identical, but newer Drupal version, but would most likely include transformation within the process.

Since a lot of new objects have been introduced in Drupal 8 (and carried through to Drupal 9), it may be worth rebuilding the entire site's structure, including its presentation layer. In which case, the migration process becomes more complex, requiring more custom logic.

Full site rebuild

Given the standards and technologies that have come out more recently and are now supported by Drupal 8 and 9, we recommend considering rebuilding your site from scratch. Into which the content of the source site can then be injected: files (images, videos, etc), users, nodes, taxonomy terms, etc.

We have a tried and tested migration plan and are able to build a complete plan. We take your site, step-by-step, through a smooth migration process, resulting in a completely new site filled with all the content of the original site.

Why Drupal?

Drupal is one of the most popular CMS platforms in the world. Renowned for:

  • Speed
  • Scalability
  • Security
  • Active community of developers
  • Thousands of modules

Why do we suggest Drupal 8 instead of Drupal 9?

An upgrade to Drupal 8 is recommended. It's feature-rich and offers every module you might hope for as part of Drupal Core

Going from 7 to 8 requires a full-platform re-write, as would going from 7 to 9. If you chose to stay on 7, you would be relying on a dated, less robust Drupal version that will no longer have support

If you move from 7 to 8, then later 8 to 9, the latter is less of a leap. Drupal 8 was completely re-architected to make future upgrades far more straightforward providing you maintain regular updates - which we can provide

What are the benefits of Drupal 9?

  • Drupal 9.1 and beyond will see some new backwards compatibility features arriving every 6 months
  • Drupal 9.1 onwards will continue adding new features to Drupal core
  • The platform will be supported by security fixes as of November 2022
  • The ease at which you can upgrade to it from Drupal 8

We can

Migrate your website including pages, posts, blogs, content, and modules and applications to a site that performs significantly better.

Consider migrating or updating if your CMS:

  • Has reached end-of-life and is no longer supported
  • Is not scalable
  • Has reached its data capacity
  • Is slow
  • Does not have the necessary functionality
